Night clubs, guns, cyberware, fast cars, electric katana’s and so much more. Cyberpunk 2077 is the shopping list of my teenage self brought to life wonderfully by the CD Projekt RED. This game will get your juices flowing like no other. 

If this is the first time you’re looking into Cyberpunk 2077, you’re in for a treat. When the game was released in December of 2020 it received some mixed reviews. Since then though it has been getting a lot of love from developers, CD Projekt RED. The game you will see when loading up now is a far cry from what it once was and boy is it good. 

I might be in the minority with my opinion of the game though, because, well, I quite enjoyed my time in Night City, however buggy it was. Hate me if you’d like, but glitchy messes are what I grew up with. Sure, some bugs and glitches can really ruin your mood, overall they can also add extra spice to the experience. 

Cyberpunk 2077 has done a few things quite well. If you look at it on the surface, the idea is simple. Kill things, loot the things you’ve killed, follow a story and finish the game. But instead of this boring linear path, the game is jam-packed with amazing easter eggs, engaging content and a pretty interesting storyline to boot. The skill tree progression system is so robust that you can play the game with multiple different characters and not encounter the same build twice. If you want to slash through the game with an electric katana, go for it. If you want to sit out of sight of your enemies and pick them off one by one with a rifle, knock yourself out. There are so many viable and fun options to choose from that you should really never grow tired of it. 

I say you should never really grow tired of the game, but this might be a bit of a white lie. The reality of a game like this is that if you find the right recipe, any combination of things can bore you quickly. It’s really hard to nail that sweet spot between smooth progression and breezing through the game. When the game got too easy, I found myself doing more and more stupid things just to get the kick I’m after. On the other hand if there were parts I simply could not progress past, I found that I lost interest rather quickly and had longer times between booting the game up than I’d have liked. 

While I can excuse a game for not drawing my interest, it’s just impossible to look past some of the more game-breaking glitches and bugs that happen. While they are not so frequent any more, having a weapon you’ve been grinding for hours to get simply disappear on you somehow or the game randomly crashing on you multiple times in one session can be deal breakers. 

If you’re okay with a game that’s still got to grow to be amazing, then you’ll probably be fine to excuse the odd occasion when things do go wrong. 

I mentioned this earlier, I was one of the few that enjoyed the game before the most recent patches and fixes. I’m the kind of person that will watch a movie and where others have hated it, I would have enjoyed it. The reason I say this is because you should take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Cyberpunk 2077 is fun, you get to be a badass running around with a cybernetically enhanced body punching people with a mechatronic arm. Is it a perfect game? Far from it. But will it scratch an itch if you’re looking for something to add to your game library that you can get a couple of great hours of enjoyment out of? Heck yeah it is.
