Often described as "2D Minecraft," Terraria is a game that masterfully blends exploration, bullet-hell combat with difficult bosses, crafting, fishing, and building. While it's fun alone, Terraria is even more fun in a multiplayer server with some friends, where you can work together to create complex houses and utility structures, fight bosses together, and pool items for crafting to get everyone the best equipment.

In Terraria, you create a 2d pixel character and explore a large, procedurally generated world. Terraria was released in 2011 for WIndows. Since then, it's been ported to most other gaming platforms, including PS3 and Xbox 360, Ps4 and Xbox One, iOS and Android, and Switch. 

Terraria is a game that centers around exploration, crafting, and building. Unlike many other games, it's got multiple facets of gameplay that allow players to set their own goals and playstyles. You can play Terraria through a lens of pure building, in which you gather materials to build cool structures, have a combat focus, in which you attempt to get the best equipment to challenge enemies and bosses, or something in between. 

Part of what makes Terraria great is that it subtly encourages you to blend these different gameplay ideas as you play the game. If you focus on building, for example, in order to gather materials safely in new areas, you'll want to be able to challenge the resident monsters in combat. If you want to access new areas, you'll need to defeat bosses. Conversely, if you want to fight bosses, you'll often want to build out complex arenas, bridges, and havens to make the fights more accessible. This means that no matter what lens you use to view Terraria, you'll get to experience everything the game has to offer. You don't have to fight everything if you're more interested in the building part of the game, but you'll definitely want to get your feet wet a little bit.

Terraria has a massive world with many, many types of material to gather. Progressing through the world will give you access to more materials, more biomes, and better loot. Eventually, you'll get to a point where you can spawn a boss. Defeating bosses initially gives you access to more items and more areas. As you make it farther in the game, defeating bosses will often have massive implications on the state of your game world. One later boss resets the whole game, making enemies tougher and loot better, while others spawn new dangerous events that challenge your character and offer enticing rewards.

Terraria is an incredibly fun game to play with friends on a multiplayer server. It's great fun to progress through the game and make houses, transporter networks, storage systems, and other complex structures on your own. With friends, it's even better. Not only can you work cooperatively to build more ambitious projects, you can also share loot, compare buildings, work together to defeat bosses, or even serve as each other's bodyguards as you gather materials or build in dangerous areas. Playing with friends turns the game from something great into something amazing. The more relaxing parts of the game, like fishing and mining, are perfect excuses to gather with your favorite people, while the more difficult and engaging parts are made more fun and rewarding when you include more players.
