Detroit: Become Human sets in the year 2038, where Detroit becomes Android City. The city produces and uses androids to do various jobs. The scene starts with an introduction to ease you into the storyline, where you see humans are becoming increasingly upset that androids have taken over their livelihood. The game is like a movie, only you control 3 main characters in the story, every decision you make affects the result. Throughout the game, what you noticed or missed also changes the choices available to you. There are several endings to this story, even though it is around a 12 hour game, you can replay it a few different ways for different results.

When you first start the game, you will notice that it is a beautiful game, the colours and the realistic look of the world, android and humans make you feel that you are part of the world. The movements of the characters are smooth, like a normal person might move. There two ways to tell between androids and humans apart; one is the circular LED that lights up in blue, yellow or red, depending on their processing, the other is the blue blood made from Thirium 310 that powers the android. In 2038, Detroit has androids but also a 28% unemployment rate. Hence, this leads to some friction between humans and the androids that they created. The game tells a story about how android are struggling to serve the humans that created to help, and how some are becoming sentient despite not build to have emotions.

You will greeted by a beautiful blond android every time you start the game, she is your android assistant in Detroit: Become Human. Initially, she is cold and distant, but you will notice changes as you go down certain story line. The game makes you feel you belong in it, every decision you make will change your assistant. To see how her manner changes, and see how your choices affect the game, you will need to continue playing. Certain decisions affect the storyline more than some, which makes this game fun to replay. Detroit: Become Human does not finish and restart when a character dies, instead the story changes to fit the narrative.

You control three androids in the game: Connor, Markus and Kara. Three different characters with different start points and with different roles to play in Detroit. While you are controlling your androids, listen to the surrounding people, as they are telling you more about the situation in the world. It is like watching a movie while being part of it. The game acts like a real-life situation, if you do not miss some clues, you will not have access to certain decisions. But, even if you missed something, you can still make choices based on what your character knows. There are no time limits to finding clues, so you can take your time to explore until you are ready to move forward.
