Description
Thrust into an unknown world filled with strange creatures, unfamiliar environments, and a dark, foreboding presence, how long can you survive against these dangerous elements?
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition is the mobile version of the original PC and console game, Don’t Starve. Released for both Android and iOS, the game adopts the same concept of a procedurally-generated world with survival and roguelike mechanics, letting you play as a character that is dragged into a parallel dimension populated by mysterious flora and fauna.
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition’s graphical style remains true to its roots; the game utilizes a slightly cartoonish design that is steeped in a dark and gloomy vibe. Do not mistake the loony visuals for a kids’ game, though, because Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition is brutal and unforgiving.
For each new playthrough, you can choose to play on a random open-world map or customize your own settings to cater to your personal challenges and expectations. This ensures that every saved game is unique from one another, increasing the game’s replayability factor.
Unlike its console counterparts, Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition only has two (2) game modes for you to opt for on your mobile – the default Classic experience or the beginner-friendly No-Sweat mode.
As their name suggests, Classic mode offers standardized in-game settings (monster damage, hunger rate, etc.) for you to overcome challenges and obstacles similar to the original version, while No-Sweat tones down the difficulty curve significantly (less damage taken, slower hunger rate, etc.).
If you’re a returning player from the base Don’t Starve game or is already accustomed to many survival game mechanics, Classic mode would be the better option for you to enjoy Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition in its entirety.
For casual gamers looking for a quick, fun time, No-Sweat mode is probably right up your alley. This might even be the best way for you to learn everything about the game too, before jumping into the real Classic experience.
There is a secret Adventure Mode inside the game too, and you can only access it if you find Maxwell’s Door during any of your playthroughs. This is considered the story mode of the game, dropping you inside certain in-game set pieces and challenges for you to beat.
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition offers all of the console version’s in-game content up to the Reign of Giants DLC. Additionally, the Shipwrecked DLC is also available for purchase too – introducing new characters to play as and special biomes to adapt to – with only small changes made to suit the game’s mobile nature.
On both Android Google Play and iOS App Store, Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition is priced at $4.99 respectively. Don’t Starve: Shipwrecked is also available on both mobile app stores for $4.99 too, but it is advisable for you to play the Pocket Edition first in order to understand the game better before transitioning to newer content.
After all, you wouldn’t want to die repeatedly for forgetting to craft a torch at night, right? There is no hand-holding in this game, so better start from the basics first.
